Kathleen Haskard's long awaited sophomore release, Don't Tell is a moody, moving slice of folk-rock noir. Haskard divides her time between the rooftops of London and a tipi in the Santa Monica Mountains, so it only makes sense that the CD was recorded in both the UK and California. It co-produced by Chuck Prophet and Simon Alpin (Devendra Banhart, Teenage Fanclub), and contains songs co-written with Prophet and Stacey Earle. Haskard's voice is equally at home on gentle folk-noir ballads and all out rockers. Maverick Magazine gives it 4 stars, Bucketfull Of Brains says, 'A record of rare quality. Haskard crosses the spectrum of emotions with her earthy but controlled singing,' and The Minneapolis Star Tribune says, '(Haskard) recalls Ingnue-era KD Lang, Patti Smith, and Jeff Buckley.' |
